The Rev. Marcia Sadberry, Rector

Rev. Marcia Sadberry is a native Texan and cradle Episcopalian who grew up in St. Luke the Evangelist Episcopal Church - the oldest historically black Episcopal Church in Houston. On August 1, 2020, Marcia was ordained as a Transitional Deacon and on February 14, 2021, she became the Rector of St. Luke. Prior to ordination Rev. Sadberry was a member of St. Luke, where served as an Acolyte, Licensed Lay Reader, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Licensed Lay Preacher, and Senior Warden.  Marcia is also a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.  She has served as the Department Secretary for the Community of Hope at St. Luke Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center (now CHI St. Luke) and Director of Youth Ministry at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Houston.

Marcia has been deep background in Music. Marcia serves as the string instructor for the Diocese of Texas Music Camp. She is currently the Orchestra Director at Cardiff Junior High, in Katy I.S.D. Marcia is the Assistant Music Director for the Community Music Center of Houston (CMCH) and a violinist in the CMCH Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and William Grant Still String Quartet. She performs annually in Miller Outdoor Theater’s Motown Review.  During Houston Grand Opera's inaugural performance of Aida in Houston's Wortham Center, Marcia was a part of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus, the cast featured the world famous tenor Placido Domingo. When Houston hosted the Superbowl, Ms. Sadberry was a violinist in the orchestra that accompanied Beyonce as she sang the national anthem. Along with having played for Beyonce, Marcia's claim to fame is that she was Beyonce's 3rd grade music teacher!

Rev. Sadberry is a proud graduate of Jack Yates High School in Houston’s historic Third Ward.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Texas Southern University. When not involved in music, Marcia loves playing racquet ball, flying her kite, riding her motorcycle and bicycle.  Marcia Sadberry is the proud mother of one son, Christian Love, Sr. and two grandsons DeAndre and Christian Jr.
